WHAT IS THE TOASTMASTER’S ROLE AT A WEDDING?
The Toastmaster is able, if called upon, to offer help and assistance with the planning of your Wedding Day. His presence at the function is to support the Host and Hostess and to ensure that it runs smoothly, thus enabling them to enjoy the occasion with their family and guests without any concerns. Part of his duties is to take care of traditions, etiquette and protocol and liaising with all other parties involved in making sure yours is ‘the perfect day’.
In particular, the Toastmaster will:
Prior to your Wedding:
- At an early stage, discuss the plans for your Wedding
- Provide advice on etiquette, protocol and tradition
- Offer hints and tips to those who will be proposing toasts or who are taking part in any other way
- Prepare all necessary announcements
The day of your Wedding:
- Arrive at the venue well in advance in order to confirm all of the arrangements on your behalf
- Liaise with all relevant parties involved with the function
- Greet and welcome the Bride & Bridegroom on their arrival
- Greet and welcome the Host and Hostess, usually the Bride’s parents, on their arrival
- Arrange the Receiving Line and introduce the guests
- Announce the Wedding Breakfast
- Announce and lead the Bride & Bridegroom to the Top Table
- Announce, or say, Grace before the meal
- Announce and arrange for the cutting of the Wedding Cake
- Announce the Formal Toasts, and other requests as required
- Remain vigilant and deal discreetly with any potential problems
- Conclude the Formal Proceedings and escort the Bride & Bridegroom from the Wedding Breakfast
- Ensure that adequate preparation is made for any subsequent festivities and make announcements as appropriate, eg. the Bride & Bridegroom to lead the dancing
- Conclude the celebrations – if required
- Be on-hand throughout to deal with any matters of concern
Where a Civil Ceremony is being held at the same venue as the Wedding Breakfast, the Toastmaster can, by prior arrangement with the Registrar, also announce the Bride’s arrival at, and the departure of the Bride and Bridegroom from, the Ceremony.
Above all, ensure that everyone has a thoroughly enjoyable time!!
